InVentiv Health Clinical

Wow, InVentiv Health Clinical sure has grown over the last several years.  This large global CRO has recently acquired PharmaNet / i3, K-Force, and several other small and medium size companies.  InVentiv Health recently published they have a global client list of more than 550 pharmaceutical, biotech and life sciences companies with over 13,000 employees to support them.

Much like many large CROs, InVentiv Health has an internal recruiting department and will provide clinical staffing to clients outside of their CRO offering.  At the time of this review, InVentiv Health advertised their “recruiting engine” to have more than 130 full time recruiters offering more than 40 years’ experience in the field.

The have a solid LinkedIn presence.  I noticed they also have a blog and Facebook page, which both focus on industry news (makes sense for a CRO).

However, while I am a fan of CROs and believe great quality CROs are an integral part of the clinical research puzzle, I am always cautious using a CRO as a staffing company.  While CROs likely have monitors on the bench ready to be assigned to your projects, I always wonder if these CRAs are part of their “A” team.

I have an article which goes deeper into my thoughts on this topic so I won’t go into details here.  I would just ask you to consider one question before engaging a CRO to be your staffing agency:  If a CRO recruits a great CRA, where do you think they are motivated to place him/her?

I have worked for Inventiv and was staffed by Inventiv and I have nothing bad to say. The reviews for this company is that it has great benefits, good management, and a good work life balance. The staffing part of the getting a job thru Inventiv was a long process.

Morale is terrible as everyone just waits for the next shoe to drop. No one knows what is going on, or who is running things. No one wants to take responsibility for anything, management is almost non-existent, but lots of chiefs at the top getting fat. The staffing part of the company was very poor.

Awful benefits, they get worse each year. More and more internal work passed to contractors, who are to bill the hours to companies to which they are contracted. The company has no interest in development of the staff they assign to other companies, have poor organization and is too top heavy, yet management is non-existent when an issue requires resolution. Companies who use them for staffing should beware that the staff they receive are not having to dedicate hours to InVentiv processes and then bill those hours to the client!

Benefits are terrible and getting worse. If a sponsor drops you they immediately fire you. No warnings, verbal or written provided. No notice that you are being terminated. They say they are putting you on a 2 week unpaid leave but later you will be informed that your health insurance was canceled immediately. I’ve only heard about people being treated like this who embezzled money from the company. My case was as simple as they liked another employee better for that particular role. I should have realized there was something wrong when I had only a 30 minute phone interview and immediately got the job.
