MEIRxRS

A company with three divisions, MEIRxRS offers “customized employment service solutions” in the retained recruiting, full service staffing and CRO areas.  For retained recruiting, the Med Exec international division advertises a focus on mid to executive level professionals. Their job board, however, tells a different story, showing positions in many different roles and functions (not just clinical research) with 1,512 open positions at the time of this writing.

Having this many open “soup to nuts” positions is very concerning and would lead me to believe this company is huge.  However, while their website is impressive, further digging showed this is a small company with a LinkedIn profile advertising the company size to be one (yes – 1).  There appear to be 4 employees on LinkedIn and the Med Exec International subdivision shows a company size of 1-10 employees.

With the small size of MEIRxRS, the “soup to nuts” focus is concerning to me.  As a hiring manager, I would want my position to be a primary focus to my staffing partner.  Additionally, I would want my staffing partner to be an expert recruiter in the clinical research field.  When my position is competing with 1,511 others in diverse fields, I would be concerned with how quickly the position is filled (and with what quality). Now, layer their double focus on CRO services and Clinical Staffing with the varied concentration on job types, and my concern grows even more.  As you know, I am always cautious using a CRO as a staffing company and I would ask you to consider one question before engaging any CRO to be your staffing agency:  If a CRO recruits a great CRA, where do you think they are motivated to place him/her?

    We decided to try MEIRxRS in order to fill our open req’s for CRAs. We got approved for more funding and we needed a lot of contractors -fast. My experience with MEIRxRS is unsatisfactory. I’m not 100% sure how large their team is but I get the feeling they have more jobs then they can handle, at least when we tried using them as a recruiting agency. Since then hopefully they have become more efficient.

  2. I’d like to respond to the Sept 2013 comment and this review in general on the agency’s behalf.

    The reviewer’s complaint is that they needed lots of contractors -fast. I do not see any matching job orders in our system for that time period for lots of CRA job orders from one client, nor do my peers recall it.

    The review gave us just one star for offering a guarantee. In fact, we do offer a guarantee and in 30 years of business have just two fall offs.

    The reviewer gave us one star for niched in clinical research. It should be obvious from our website and our LinkedIn profiles that we are niched in clinical research. We partner with other agencies, through Top Echelon, a shared applicant tracking system (ATS) with hundreds of boutique agencies as members. Those agencies make up for the 1512 job postings at the time of the writing of the brief above. When we receive an order from an existing client for something outside our niche or have an abundance of work, we rely on these other boutique agencies to help support our clients. I’ve posted more information about Top Echelon on our homepage. To reiterate, our focus is on clinical research, medical affairs, quality and regulatory affairs.

    The review gives one star for robust screening process, but offers no feedback about our process. Our goal is to sufficiently screen so that we present just three top candidates for each position. This saves our clients the hassle of posting jobs, sorting resumes, and phone screening. We also meet all industry standards with background and reference checks.

    Finally, the article on using a CRO as a staffing agency does not apply to us. We provide turnaround & rescue services when sponsor’s CRO is failing to deliver. To solve the specific issues the sponsor is experiencing, we build a custom team from scratch, through our staffing arm legal entity and our search arm legal entity. The model is that the CRO team is dedicated to one client, with no bait and switch, free of the historical baggage that caused the failures in the first place.

    A “great CRA” should be defined as the employer’s need for a combination of level of experience, salary range, therapeutic experience and location. The article on using a CRO as a staffing agency does not apply unless we were ramping up for a rescue study at the same time as a client and had the exact same requirements. Given that study rescues require staff with greater experience, such a scenario is next to impossible.
