Monitor for Hire

With a motto “What if Clinical Trials Staffed Themselves?”, Monitor for Hire definitely had a unique clinical recruiting approach.   I like that Monitor for Hire focuses on CRAs (so a Niche within a Niche).  I also like that they have a resource management tool that quickly lets me know how many monitors they have available with specific therapeutic experience and in specific regions.

Definitely a great concept!  Here is my only concern:  through Monitor for Hire’s on admission, they use a 3rd party company to verify all candidate backgrounds.  I absolutely believe in using technology to streamline recruiting; but I don’t believe you can lose the human touch as it relates to finding the right fit for your company.  Let’s face it, finding a qualified CRA who will stick is more than just finding someone who fits the therapeutic and location job requirements.

Wouldn’t you agree that even though you on-board a CRA who meets all of the job qualifications, that doesn’t mean that CRA will perform well in your company’s environment?  I have worked in large and small companies…and some CRAs do well in the smaller “wear multiple hats” organizations while others do better in large.  I have worked in both government and private sector…and some CRAs “get” government while others excel in the private sector environment.  I have managed studies with both CROs and Sponsors…and the pace is different!  Some CRAs excel in CROs while other really strong CRAs flame out pretty spectacularly.

So if you decide to engage Monitor for Hire, I would suggest you request a 1-1 consultation with a single point of contact (account manager or project manager) at the company.  You should set the expectations that you care about more than just the therapeutic experience and location of the monitors being submitted.

Some logistics on Monitor for Hire:  Nationwide coverage (actually growing into international), strong LinkedIn presence, but no blog that we could find.  Also, remember their focus is Contract CRAs, so if you need permanent CRAs or folks in other Clinical Research Operational roles, Monitor for Hire may not be your “one stop shop”.  Have you worked with Monitor for Hire?  Our Audience would love to hear your feedback – add comments about Monitor for Hire here.

Monitor for Hire is great! You just download the app and based on your location they’ll tell you what contracts they have available in your region. It’s quick, easy, and efficient. The only thing I would note is that its very independent. You’re in charge of keeping track of your schedule and finding your project using the app. This was great for me, but it may not be ideal for everyone.

As a hiring manager, I would recommend you be careful when engaging such a “hands off” recruiting agency.

It is nice to see (at a glance) how many monitors this agency has “available” in a certain region with certain therapeutic knowledge. However, it takes more than just therapeutic experience for a monitor to be the type of monitor I want to work with.

I prefer those agencies who spend quality verbal time with candidates to understand the candidates’ soft skills as well as verifies the actual therapeutic knowledge. The devil is in the detail – make sure your recruiter has a great screening process.
