MSN Medical Staffing Network

The Medical Staffing Network (MSN) is a company I would classify as a hybrid.  This company isn’t really niched in clinical research, as their primary specialty is on other medical staffing (nurses, PAs, pharmacists, and other allied health specialists).  While MSN does have a clinical research division, the majority of their placements as an overall company are within the nursing discipline.  At the time of writing this review, they had 1507 open positions with only 5 of them listed in the Clinical Research category.

MSN has a solid internet presence with an active LinkedIn group and Facebook page.  Their clinical research focus seems to fall within operations (SAS programming, Regulatory, Coordinators and Data Management), but I am hopeful they recruit CRAs too.  MSN Corporate was formed in 1998 and they appear to place contractors as well as permanent / direct (although I didn’t see a guarantee statement on their website for direct hires).

Our audience would love to hear your feedback working with MSN.  Add your comments about MSN here.

  1. I submitted my CV, via email, to the Clinical Reseach Branch Manager following our phone conversation about a temporary position near my home in south Louisiana. She replied the same day stating she would keep in touch. After hearing nothing else for more than a week, I sent an email asking her for an update. She replied that, because she did not receive my CV, she assumed I was not interested in the position. I resubmitted my CV in an email and included a note that stated there must have been a mix-up, I was still very interested in the south Louisiana temp job we had discussed on the phone. She did not reply. Five days later, I got an email asking if I have a nursing license. We discussed this matter at length during our phone call and my CV does not indicate or imply that I hold an RN or LPN license. Today, I got an email asking how far I live from California!?!? WOW!!! Words can not describe what an underwhelming this experience has been!

With my background in nursing, Medical Staffing Network was able to find me per diem work quickly which was great! A lot of my other colleagues at MSN were also nurses (CNA’s and RN’s) so I was surprised to see clinical research positions listed on their website. I would assume they must not be recruiting those positions as actively, or they don’t exist. I have since moved onto clinical research and have been unable to be as successful at finding a job through MSN.
